INSTRUCTION

Exercise 1 :Quantify Data

For this exercise, I first selected some craft materials and tried grouping them in three different ways.

SIZE

Material

Colour

After trying various approaches, I finally managed to put it all together.

Exercise 2 : L.A.T.C.H

In this exercise, we need to use the L.A.T.C.H. technique to create a poster; I started by making one as a classroom exercise.

I then created a poster showing the distribution of Pokémon as requested. The main challenge I faced during this stage was my lack of familiarity with the different Pokémon species. To overcome this, I sought advice from a friend and consulted the official Pokédex, eventually producing this final piece.

Reflection:

Through these two exercises, I gradually learnt some of the basic principles of information visualisation posters and gained an initial understanding of this design format. When I first started designing, I wasn’t really sure what information visualisation entailed, nor did I know how to combine data with visual elements, so I often felt a bit lost during the process.

However, through constant trial and error, I began to gradually grasp the design logic behind information visualisation posters, such as how to make information clearer through sensible layout, and how to use graphics and colours to help the audience understand the data more easily. These exercises made me realise that information visualisation is not merely about presenting data; more importantly, it is about making information intuitive and easy to understand.

Although I still have much to learn, through these two exercises I have gradually overcome some of the initial difficulties and established a basic understanding of information visualisation design.
