Character Design / Bacherlor of Design in Creative Media
Week 12:
At this stage, I refined the original character illustration, making the color transitions more natural and brightening the inside of the hood so that the face and hair, which are in shadow, stand out more clearly. I also enhanced the texture of the pants and combat suit while softening the lines, resulting in a more cohesive overall look.
Throughout this project, I gradually came to understand the logical support and complete process required to create a character. In the past, I had attempted to design characters I liked, but it usually stopped at a simple background story or one or two illustrations. Even when I wanted to enhance the character’s design or make it more complete, I often didn’t know where to start. This course, however, helped me gain a deeper understanding of the principles and sequence behind character creation, while also challenging me to explore areas I had never attempted before.
I used to dislike drawing full-body characters, let alone backgrounds, but through this project, I discovered that it wasn’t as difficult as I had imagined. With continuous practice, I gradually learned to balance details with overall composition. Seeing my finished work brought me an undeniable sense of joy and accomplishment. This experience not only improved my technical skills but also allowed me to appreciate the creative process itself, and the satisfaction of bringing a character from a simple concept to a fully realized presentation.
