Anatomy and Character Sculpture/ Bacherlor of Design in Creative Media
Exercise 1 : Character Design Concept (Digital Drawing)
The third stage mainly focused on clothing sculpting, coloring, and prop creation. During this process, I learned some basic techniques for coloring and material application in ZBrush, as well as fundamental methods for sculpting fabric and clothing forms. Through continuous experimentation and adjustments, I began to understand the relationship between the character’s body and costume structure, and how material changes can affect the overall visual result. This stage helped improve the completeness of the character and strengthened my ability to handle design details.
Week 12 - 14
TASK 3: Posing
In the final stage, I further enhanced the anatomical modeling from Task 1 based on the existing work. Although there are still many areas that need improvement, I believe I have made clear progress compared to when I first started learning this field. Through continuous experimentation and revision, I gained valuable hands-on experience. I truly value these learning opportunities, as they helped me understand that character creation is a long-term process that requires patience and refinement. Even though my work is not yet perfect, I hope to continue improving and developing my skills in future projects.
Looking back on this project, I came to realise that character creation is not about completing individual tasks, but about following a structured and logical process that requires constant testing and adjustment. From confirming the character concept to working on anatomy, clothing, posing, and final refinement, each stage challenged my previous habits and understanding. One of the most important outcomes of this project was learning to make design decisions more consciously, rather than relying purely on intuition.
Throughout the process, I also became more aware of my weaknesses, particularly in anatomical understanding. Even after multiple revisions, some results did not fully meet my expectations. However, these difficulties helped me clearly identify areas that need improvement and encouraged me to think more carefully about structure and design logic instead of focusing only on completion. I also learned to accept imperfect results as part of the learning process rather than seeing them as failures.
In addition, this project taught me patience when dealing with complex revisions and heavy workloads. Large pose adjustments and repeated modifications to clothing and details showed me that character design is an iterative process that requires time and refinement. When viewing the final outcome, I could clearly see my progress compared to the beginning of the project, not only in technical skills but also in my overall approach and mindset.
Overall, this project was a valuable learning experience. Although there is still significant room for improvement, I now have a clearer understanding of my future development direction. I hope to continue strengthening my knowledge of anatomy, improving the accuracy and consistency of my designs, and applying the experience gained from this project to more advanced and complete character creations in the future.
