Experience
My first semester at BDCM was full of new experiences, and typography proved to be the most challenging module for me. I had no prior knowledge of the subject, no experience with the skills required, and even the software was unfamiliar. It took considerable effort to adapt, but this challenge made the experience both memorable and rewarding.
Weekly feedback from my tutor, Ms. Vitiyaa, played a crucial role in my progress. Initially, I struggled to understand assignment requirements and lacked the flexibility to meet expectations, leading to subpar results. However, her guidance helped me refine my designs, focus on details, and gradually understand the principles of the course. With her support, I became more confident and capable, making the journey truly transformative.
Observations
I have come to understand through experience that the design process is just as crucial as the final outcome. Engaging deeply in the process has not only taught me to achieve my goals through various approaches but also inspired me to explore the creative potential of different typographic design variations. This exploration has enhanced my understanding of design flexibility and revealed how even the smallest adjustments can significantly influence the overall outcome.
Moreover, I have realised the importance of building a solid foundation in typography, particularly understanding the historical evolution of typefaces and related terminology. These elements form the roots of design and serve as essential tools for enhancing the quality of my work. By developing this foundation, I have gained greater confidence in expressing my ideas and a deeper appreciation for the precision and discipline required in design.
Looking back, I am incredibly grateful for these weeks of learning, which have introduced me to a fascinating new world of typography and design. Moving forward, I am eager to continue exploring the intricacies of typography, uncover new possibilities, and refine my design skills through ongoing practice and study.
